  • 150 g granulated sugar (for the filling)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 600 ml milk (your choice)
  • 2 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (for apples and custard)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to medium heat. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples, then mix with sugar and cornstarch; let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the apple mixture until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool slightly.
  3. Whisk together egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a bowl. Heat milk until simmering; gradually add to the egg mixture while whisking.
  4. Return to heat and cook until thickened.
  5. Layer half of the apple mixture in a baking mold, followed by half of the custard; repeat layers.
  6. Chill for at least an hour before serving.
