  • 3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chopped stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef, minced garlic, and chopped onion. Cook for about 10 minutes until the beef is browned; drain excess liquid.
  2. Stir in the chopped stewed tomatoes, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for one hour while stirring occasionally.
  4. After an hour of simmering, add the rinsed pinto beans and salt. Stir well and cook for an additional 15 minutes before serving hot.
