Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/3 cups all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter (for icing)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (for icing)
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar (for icing)
  • Pinch salt (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. Cream the unsalted butter with dark brown sugar on medium speed until smooth. Add the egg and beat on high until combined. Mix in pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract until well combined.
  3. Pour the prepared dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Add in chopped pecans and mix until incorporated.
  4. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to 3 days.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line 2-3 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll cookie dough into balls using about 1.5 tablespoons per cookie and place them on sheets about two inches apart.
  7. Bake for about 12-13 minutes until edges are lightly browned but centers are soft.
  8. Cool cookies on sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. To make maple icing, melt butter with pure maple syrup in a small saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in sifted confectioners' sugar until smooth. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
  10. Drizzle icing over cooled cookies and allow to set for about an hour before serving.
